Barriers to travel

Business is based on communicating ideas. Communication is most efficient when people have a chance for face-to-face meeting. This creates a need for people to travel in order to be in that position of personal and close communication. Traveling is a barrier to communication.

I’m sicken tired of sitting endless hours at airports, harbours, train stations, planes, ships and trains. I can’t turn myself into one of those commuting ants who type away the whole trip and get off having completed half of day’s work. Well, I happen to know that they are busy with Solitaire, so I’m not that worried.

The more they introduce security to keep us safe while traveling, the more the system gets bogged down. Increasingly it is about waiting to move instead of moving. To counter this development, I have personally moved most of my communication online. It works well, you should try it too. As you get more work done there are less dissatisfactions between you, customers and suppliers. This will free some time to attend even more details - positive spiral.

The other road is to spend more time managing customerships and lose efficiency and manage customerships even more, which leaves even less time for work - negative spiral. So, try it out and work more,  you might notice that your customers will be happier.
