The first of May

Finland has a long history with Russia - and as it was called at some point of time - Soviet Union. To keep the long story short, there were people who favoured Soviet Union and thought that the model society would be the saviour of the world and especially the saviour of the working class. There were also people who didn’t believe that human nature can change so much that this utopian society will happen. Now we know how that movie ended, but around 1920 the flick was just at opening titles.

Finland has been on the boarderline of East/West division and you can clearly see that history if you come to visit our peculiar little country. Shops don’t open on Sundays, people drive around in old cars (add just about 50% of tax into your car price to see if it still is such a bargain), get government pension that they use to partying at Pattaya (you really should go),  I could go on, but the thing is that all these things are familiar to me so I can’t really offer something exotic to you.

THE POINT

You can’t provide obvious solution to your customer without understanding her need and the history of that need. Best way to get this information is to work together with the customer to solve the problem. The best way is not to ask open ended questions, althought that is already quite good if you don’t know how to work together with the customer.

HOLIDAY

Because of our history, today is our holiday. I care about history, so I understand this habit, but I don’t care about habits unless they include drinking beer and watching Top Gear, so I’ve been working the whole day. People are different, you can’t sell the same solution for all of them.
