Sellwell 4 - Ask?
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 23:47
-It's all about the voice. The louder you shout the faster they come, eh? Robert Jefferson thought so and went to with his dream of world's biggest traveling carnival of freaks. Robert hit it big, he married the heaviest girl on the other side of the Mississippi. Together they had three children one of which became a gardener at Howard Hughes' Playboy Mansion. All this was thanks to Robert's loud sales voice.
The most common picture associated with salesmen is right here on the left. There is a dude shouting out loud, but not wearing KISS makeup.
ATTENTION
I’m only writing this once, so you can read it as many times as it takes to get the point. With thundering speakers and blinding lights you will get attention, but you will not gain interest (I’m not getting into the whole emergency vehicle thing here). However, interest is pretty hard to direct into right direction without attention.
If you feel obliged to shout into my ear, you better shout something that is useful for me or otherwise I’ll take a murdering look at you and walk away slowly (that’s what consumers do all their lives). If your message has something for me, I might be yours.
INTEREST
The way to ignite the bonfire of never ending enthusiasm towards generic product is still at large, but we, ruthless marketers and salespeople, can still push those lemmings into right direction. This gentle pushing happens by pulling - yeah, doesn’t seem to make any sense - by asking questions.
When you ask something direct the chances are target will answer, sometimes it’s something like “sod off” or “don’t you have anything better to do”, but when you hit the right button, they stop and open up to you. Now comes the fun part, if you manage to make your prospect to talk about themselves they will automatically associate you with a sense of closeness. This is based on their belief that conversation partner gains understanding of who and what they are and therefore will treat them nicer. Kind of like raising hands palm open to greet possible enemies in an expression of good faith. Then it is your decision how to proceed from there. I will end today’s article with very describing photo for us all.
