Sales commission double whammy
Thursday, March 12, 2009 23:34GET IN THE RING
Times like these require nerves of steel. Stress to close deals and sell more pounds you from left and right. More pressure is not a solution to sales distress. Know this, it is impossible to reach the targets that were sent during the good old times.
STOPPED BY THE LEFT HOOK
The obvious thing that hits us first is the drop in orders that we are able to generate. This happens in frighteningly similar manner across various industries. First we are busy to our ears and then suddenly out of orders. When salesmen awake to the grunt work of prospecting, as existing customers just aren’t generating enough volume, it can take two normal sales cycles before new orders can be gained. Just think of it, first you need to find a qualified prospect and then lead them through the buying process and fulfillment - no quick fix here, so spread out.
DROPPED BY THE RIGHT STRAIGHT
As if drop in order tally is not enough, average sales volume is also going to drop. There are two reasons for this: buyers try to survive with less and you will most likely have to discount your prices to grab odd orders. Together these fists will pound you silly, unless you learn to dance.
HOW TO SURVIVE TODAY?
Even if you have the masters belt, you have to be frugal. If you keep your costs down, you can run farther than your competition. Many of those weak salesmen are going to bail the profession if not even the industry that you are in. There will be more for you when times get better again. Think of all those prospects that you have meanwhile acquired - you shall close many more deals in the future.
HOW TO SELL TODAY?
You know that you are not going to sell as much as before so you have more time. You have to sell with patience, be there for your new prospects and old clients. They will appreciate the clear-cut service, which you now can provide them for. You have to run down this beast, tire it out, because it’s just too damn strong to be punched out.
