Posting comments is cold calling
Friday, February 13, 2009 0:24Comment posting on other blogs is for blogging what talking to strangers is for sales. In both one have to grab the bull by its horns and start developing occasional contact towards meaningful relationship.
TWO SCHOOLS
There are two opposite ends on prospecting the other focuses on huge contact amounts and fast results, you might know it as telemarketing or haggling etc. The other end believes in longterm approach and focuses on small group of customers, which generate large revenue especially in longterm.
SHORT FUSE SCHOOL
These guys take lots of contact and meet lots of strangers. They present their offer and try to run with your money. This style needs relatively cheap product promotion to work, because people will not make decision on the spot if you ask them to buy a boat or a house. Especially true in short fuse context, in which the offer comes as a surprise.
TIME BOMB SCHOOL
These guys have massive year calendars on their desk. They too have many contacts only difference being they meet with same people over and over. There is a good reason to do so - large profit. Big deals are often complex and need plenty of time to materialize, but when they do it is enough to support an army of salespeople for the next year.
WHAT BLOGGERS CAN LEARN FROM THIS?
One thing to take home from this post is that if you don’t have an expensive product you might not benefit from longterm relationships. I would like to recommend short fuse strategy for you, just go about and comment on all kinds of blogs and gain backlinks. Search engines will take care of adequate traffic and you can monetize your little money makers like Google AdSense.
Then we have those people who have something expensive to sell. Maybe you blog, because it is part of your offline business’ online strategy. I have noticed that especially real estate agents have been very active in trying to build their presence in internet. It makes sense for them to cultivate relationships and trust. Purely online enterprises usually include various sorts of courses and training programs. Joint ventures can have fantastic paydays, but it takes time to swim into those circles.
THINK ABOUT IT
What’s your commenting strategy and has it changed during the time that you have blogged?
