I want to talk to your manager

Always ready to ask for more, Peter wanted challenges, but little did he realize that cold calling would prove to be more challenging than engaging enemy planes.
MOST OF THE TIME
These situations are so much fun, but they shouldn’t. I don’t get these often, but since I’m usually the one who turns off the lights I’m also the person who takes those late callers. Most of the time it is business as usual meaning that people want to know more about our products or want to have a quotation or possibly trying to reach some specific expert.
SOMETIMES
Sometimes, however, the caller has some kind of emergency and they demand immediate attention. I can’t transform myself into a spare part or repair service so I just politely ask for callers contact information and promise to deliver the message. Sometimes this totally backfires and “Don’t you dare to brush me off” play starts. What goes wrong here? There is something that triggers this behavior.
BRUSH OFF
I’ve learned so much that whenever anybody gets completely riled up and starts shouting for ambulance, police and manager, I just keep my cool and ask them to deal with me instead of that mysterious high-ranking ally that they have in company (but for some reason failed to call in the first place). Some listen, but for some reason few people shout even more. Can you believe that? An adult at the other end of a phone is screaming like a monkey and expects it to have a desired result. At that point, I usually hang up the phone. This is a great way to force them to count to ten. Follow-up call comes usually after 30 to 60 seconds and continues from where it was suddenly disconnected. Go figure…
DAY AFTER
Boss comes to my room and asks about something weird that he had heard from a customer. It involves the most rude behavior ever as well as terrible customer service. Yes, sometimes I fail to be 24/7 plumber living right next door to you. It’s fine by my boss, he also knows those challenging customers, some of them personally.
