Let the salesmen make their own sales materials

Marketers don’t understand a shit about sales. They want beautiful smiley faces and colorful diagrams and flowers all over product info sheets and then they read some customer feedback report and change it completely to illustrate different pairs of smiling faces and diagrams and flowers with different colours.

SALES MANAGER! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR

Let salespeople create their own marketing materials and set them free. They need that sense of control that they get at Starbucks (had a tiny typo back there and realized that there just has to be a porn flick called Starbukkake). Using your own material also takes the blame away from the company, but only if the company provides some shoddy sales material to begin with.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SALESMAN

Seasoned veterans run customer meetings with a notebook (paper notebook) and a pencil while rookies have to tool up a minivan just to get all the buttons and marketing pens they plan to give to the prospect. It is all part of the natural selection of salesmen. First comes the realization that marketing department is there just to eat into profits and delegating marketing campaigns to outside agencies. Second milepost is developing your own material and you catch up the zen of sales when you notice that you don’t really need anything but an ability to listen and help the customer. That’s how sales are made.
