Honda pulls an oldie

I have been paying attention to moves that Honda has made in order to tackle the downturn. Massive production cuts and layoffs but also some interesting marketing moves. They have announced their withdrawal from F1 and quitting the support for AMA road racing. I suspect that they will have to pick one focus and try to channel all motoring budget there to keep at least one front up and running.

WAS IT GOOD FOR YOU?
This makes me wonder if they really benefited something from taking part into F1. Sure their engines were great, but who really pays attention to that? Everybody just talks about the drivers and two or three biggest teams.

WHAT WORKS?
Also this makes me wonder if it is better to pick just one segment that one is able to dominate no matter during good or bad times. That would transform the marketing cost into marketing and brand investment. Still it wouldn’t be counted as advertising, so is there really a point in supporting a motor sports team?
